Cleveland’s Emmaus community was established in 1983. Emmaus is a three-day course in Christianity that was inspired by a renewal movement that began in Majorca, Spain in 1944 called Cursillo de Cristiandad, meaning “short course in Christianity”. The purpose of Emmaus is to support the church’s effort to guide spiritual formation and growth. The Protestant version of the Cursillo began in the 1960’s and was re-named the Walk to Emmaus.

Chrysalis is a three-day course in Christianity for young persons ages 15-18 years old. Chrysalis grew out of the Walk to Emmaus movement. The purpose of Chrysalis is to support the church’s effort to guide the spiritual formation of Christian young people. Young people get to experience the living Christ through a daily flow of worship and reflection, teaching and small-group discussion, creative expression and play, as well as prayer and signs of support from the Chrysalis, Journey, and Emmaus communities. The objective of the Chrysalis Flight is to inspire, challenge, and equip young people for a closer friendship with Christ and for Christian action at home, church, school, and community.

Journey is a three-day course in Christianity for young persons ages 19-25 years old (post high school). Similar to Chrysalis, this weekend allows young people the opportunity to experience the living Christ and the focus is a commitment to Jesus Christ through the local church. The Journey walk is designed to encourage young adults to become more mature about living out their faith in God.
